Neighbors

Overall I have to say I have the most wonderful neighbors a person could ask for. There are a few that stick to themselves and are not the social butterflies of the neighborhood but we do have a few that love to talk and be of great assistance. When we first moved in we were welcomed by the leader of the neighborhood watch who brought over vegetables and a pie. I didn't think neighbors did that anymore but it was a pleasant surprise. Over the next few weeks we met the other neighbors and learned all of the neighborhood gossip. There is a little old lady that lives near us whom I think has a secret crush on my husband because she only comes over when I am not here and talks to him. (lol) I pick on him about that, he doesn't seem to think it is as funny as I do. Adam and his wife and kids life across the street from us and they have been absolutely wonderful. So wonderful in fact that they have let us borrow everything from lawn mowers to Christmas lights, to gardening tools. He gives us vegetables from his garden and flowers that are growing in excess in his yard. Every once in a while the four men in the neighborhood houses close to ours, including my husband, will all stand around in one of our yards to talk, cut up, and drink a beer or two which reminds me of the four guys doing the same thing on the TV show King of the Hill. It is really funny to watch. Teresa is Adam's wife and she has been a wonderful help to me. She is a professor at Lenoir Rhyne University and is currently seeking her Master's degree online while I am seeking my bachelor's in education. She has come to my aid several times when I have had computer issues and needed to get something done for school. She understands what I am going through so we definitely support each other with whatever we can on that. Of course we have done some things for our neighbors as well but that is not the point of the blog. I just wanted to throw that in there so it did not seem so one sided, which it did after I read what I typed. So anyway, I am grateful that we got such wonderful neighbors with our house because I have heard so many horror stories about bad neighbors and apparently everyone was happy to see the people go that used to live in our house before someone bought it, fixed it up, and sold it to us.

  1. Hi Jennifer - it is so great to hear that you have good neighbors. It truly is a blessing. I just moved into a new house about a year and a half ago, and it has been slow going to meet my neighbors. I moved from an old country farm house so having neighbors at all is new to me. Maybe I am doing something wrong? LOL Anyway - it is good to hear that people still socialize with their neighbors.

  3. That's so wonderful that you have actually met so many of your neighbors. I agree with Jackie,it's good to know that people still socialize with their neighbors. I like knowing my neighbors. The house we live in is the house my husband grew up in. Therefore he knows a few of the older neighbors and we met two of our immediate neighbors when they moved in. We get along with them just fine. Actually we rarely see them because we are so busy all of the time.

  4. Great neighbors are such fun! I live in a neighborhood that used to be all senior (way senior) citizens, but now we have gotten in a few new families. The streets are filled with kids in the summer; riding bikes or chasing each other around. I love it. The only thing I find irritating is when they all start to come to your house for free snacks and drinks everyday--or knock on the door every few minutes to see if someone can come outside. You don't have that issue cuz I assume your cat doesn't have that kind of friends. How are the plants coming along?
